New Mexico Bear Hunting

two hunters in new mexico with black bear

In New Mexico we hunt the black bear species. They vary in color from jet-black to blond, with cinnamon and brown phases also being quite common. We offer a five-day fall hunt; normally scheduled September and October. Most of our bear hunting is done with strike dogs on top of the box or from horseback behind hard-driving hounds. Stand hunting can also be productive in the right situation, and is sometimes selected for hunters who are not up to the rigors of hound hunting. Our success rate is over 95%. Bear hunts can be combined with a variety of other species including lion, antelope, elk and deer. Licenses are purchased over the counter.

Experience The "True Success" Difference

We hunt for trophy bears, not every bear we bring to bay is trophy and the hunter is not expected to take the first available, on most hunts we will see several bears in the 5  day time frame.  Our seasoned pack of hounds is in our opinion one of the finest New Mexico has to offer, with over 40 years experience raising, training, and harvesting the largest animals taken.

Why Hunt Black Bear | 50%+ Color Phase

The fearsome visage of the black bear makes an imposing addition to any trophy room. Big bear can be difficult to take down, and a clear and clean shot can lead to a beautiful trophy. The area we hunt in New Mexico is well known for producing large bears. We have taken many bears with skulls measuring more than 20 inches.
